How To Get Rid Of Dark Under-Eye Circles

By  |

I’m sure you’ve heard the term that the eyes are the window to the soul but it’s really hard to get people to look you straight in the eye when you have dark circles or puffiness serving as a distraction. You don’t feel confident. Puffy eyes and dark circles can be tricky to overcome but if you have them, then it’s a safe bet that you want them to be gone. Here are a few tips that will show you how to get rid of dark under-eye circles and puffiness.

Ever heard of the old wives’ tale that says you can treat eye puffiness with haemorrhoid cream (such as Preparation H)? The theory is that this will shrink the tissues producing bags or puffiness and it seems to make sense. A LOAD OF BALONEY! It doesn’t work and can cause damage to your eyes, so don’t try it!

As you will see, there are things that do work…

The easiest thing you can do is reduce your salt intake. Too much sodium leads to holding water and this can add to the puffiness under your eyes. Also, ensure that you’re getting an acceptable amount of vitamins A, C and E as these are vital to having healthy skin.

DIY home remedies for these specific eye problems include placing fresh-sliced cucumbers or tea bags on your eyes. These tend to work better in some people than others but at the very least they will be soothing, so they’re worth a try.

If the home remedies aren’t working for you, then you can look for products in the shop. Before you buy, check the list of ingredients for things like horse aloe, chestnut, caffeine, ivy, tea, liquorice and cucumber. The horse chestnut ingredient will help improve your circulation in the eyes which will help to reduce the dark circles. The aloe will be gentle and also helps to hydrate your skin. The ivy gets rid of the fluid build-up. Caffeine will help to reduce any swelling. Both the cucumber and tea (look for white or green if you can) work to soothe swelling. Liquorice is also soothing and reduces puffiness too.

The most vital parts of getting rid of dark circles are:

  • Get plenty of sleep. This will reduce the puffiness and the under-eye dark sections.
  • Try not to drink a lot of alcohol.
  • Change your bed sheets once every week or so. Dust can cause the dark circles due to allergies.
  • De-stress. Dark circles are often caused by stressing.
  • Drink plenty of water and try sleeping with 2 pillows to help drain any extra water away from your eyes.
  • When patting the eye area, always ensure you pat your skin with your ring finger. This is the weakest finger.
  • Try cucumbers or cold tea bags on your eyes to reduce the swelling and puffiness.
  • If you don’t like to use food, then use 2 spoons. Pop them in the fridge until they are cold and place over the eyes.

You won’t have to worry anymore about people looking at you funny or in a strange way. Try the above methods and you’ll be able to see for yourself what a difference they make in your appearance. Not only will you look fabulous but you will feel a whole lot better too!
